Erik Nickerson, LCSW, is a seasoned Primary Therapist and Social Worker with a profound commitment to fostering recovery and mental well-being. Since joining Borden Cottage in 2017 as a caseworker, Erik has become an integral part of the team, assuming the role of Primary Therapist. Specializing in addiction recovery, Erik employs his expertise to facilitate group sessions utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), while also delivering personalized individual therapy for residents.

A 2006 graduate of the University of Maine with a Master of Social Work, Erik brings an impressive 17-year track record to his therapeutic practice. His approach is characterized by compassion and collaboration, embodying a deep understanding of the complexities individuals, couples, and families face in navigating mental health and substance abuse challenges.

Before his tenure at Borden Cottage, Erik served as the Clinical Coordinator for the Maine State Prison, where he pioneered an integrated health care model for the adult male population. His diverse experience spans hospital, school-based, and community settings, where he played pivotal roles as a member and lead for multidisciplinary teams. Erik’s holistic approach and wealth of experience make him a vital asset in the pursuit of holistic healing and recovery at Borden Cottage.
