Mitzi, the dedicated Head Addictions and Psychiatric Nurse at Borden Cottage, has been an integral part of the team since 2017, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in mental health and substance use disorder. With a background as a psychiatric nurse dating back to 2011, Mitzi has been a guiding force in providing compassionate care to residents on their journey to recovery.

In her role as Head Nurse, Mitzi oversees the day-to-day operations of the RN staff and ensures that the team receives up-to-date training. Collaborating with her colleagues, she conducts assessments and delivers care to residents, emphasizing family education and comprehensive aftercare planning.

Mitzi takes pride in being part of the Borden Cottage team, where she actively contributes to what is affectionately known as “Borden Magic.” Her commitment lies in instilling hope and facilitating a path to long-term recovery and healing. She expresses, “Every member of the team is truly and warmly invested in our residents’ recovery.”

Instrumental in developing psychoeducational curriculum, Mitzi covers crucial topics such as Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome, Identifying Triggers & Coping with Cravings, Good Sleep Practices, Opiate Use Disorder Education and Overdose Prevention, Tobacco Cessation, and Preventing Addiction-Related Suicide.

Prior to joining Borden Cottage Mitzi worked as a Psychiatric Nurse with the Psychiatric and Addictions Recovery Center at Pen Bay Healthcare, Togus VA Medical Center and the Riverview Psychiatric Center.

Outside her role at Borden Cottage, Mitzi finds joy in various pursuits, including acrylic fantasy and whimsical painting, gardening, reading, meditation, spending time in nature, and enjoying the calming presence of the ocean. Additionally, she extends her compassion to socializing with traumatized shelter cats, embodying a holistic approach to well-being.
